• FORT KNOX, Ky.
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) recently announced two additions to the installation, one a new eatery and the other an expansion of an existing self-storage facility.
PIZZA PARLOR
AAFES will begin offering new cuisine to the base in June with the addition of a Sbarro pizza restaurant at the Main Post Exchange.
According to AAFES officials, the new shop will offer a variety of pizza and pasta options, as well as desserts.
Prices will vary depending on the number of toppings and style of pizza and can be ordered by the slice or whole at 14, 16 or 17 inches.
The establishment will replace the drink station that was previously housed next to Subway, which is now located to the right of Starbucks.
AAFES officials said the shop is scheduled to open by June 11.
SELF-STORAGE FACILITY
Lock and Leave Storage Center here recently received an expansion, providing an additional 40 units to the existing storage service.
These new units are located on Gold Vault Road across from the Fort Knox Directorate of Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) recreational vehicle and boat storage area.
With the addition to the pre-existing units, located at building 1611 next to the U.S. Army Recruiting Outreach Company Headquarters on Wilson Road, the installation now has 150 total Lock and Leave Storage Center units available for use.
Units available by size and price include:
8’x10’x8’ unit – $92 a month
5’x8’x8’ unit – $45 a month
5’x4’x8’ unit – $30 a month
Those wishing to rent one of the new units can approach a unit and call the number located on the back of the price tag labeled “Rent Me” to begin the process.
OTHER ADDITIONS
Earlier, in March, AAFES and base officials here conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the installation’s sixth Unattended Retail Unit (URU), or Mini-Market.
The new market is located in the 1st Theater Sustainment Command (TSC) barracks and features a coffee station, drink machine, snacks stand and a small selection of over-the-counter (OTC) medicinal products.
This new site joins other such locations on base, including those at the Recruiting and Retention College, which is the largest one to date; 1st TSC Headquarters; the V Corps gym; barracks building 1480 and the 19th Engineer Battalion barracks.
AAFES Service Business Manager Maecelle Cummings said that this concept offers user-friendly, self-checkout kiosks and a wide range of products to choose from.
“These markets are the ideal solution for offering a variety of snack and beverage options to individuals on the installation,” Cummings stated.
