AAFES Opens Mediterranean Restaurant At Base

• KATTERBACH AB, Germany

A new dining option was provided to Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) patrons at Katterbach Kaserne with the grand opening of Erdinc Gyros House on Aug. 13. The eatery offers Mediterranean dishes, including gyros and pita bread, as well as fries and beverages.

Helping to usher in the new restaurant with a ribbon-cutting on Sept. 4 were Tina Eakin, services business manager for the EUCOM Consolidated Exchange; Robin Boylan, EUCOM general manager (GM); Daniel Riley, Ansbach Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) director; and Ryan Moran, Ansbach MWR chief of the Business & Recreation Division.

CONTINUING A TRADITION

Erdinc Gyros House is the latest venture in a long-standing tradition from the Bingol family, which has served gyros and Mediterranean cuisine at U.S. military bases across Germany for more than 25 years.

“I worked in my uncle’s gyros restaurant in Grafenwoehr and Hohenfels for many years before seeing this opportunity to open up my own gyros house here in Katterbach,” said Owner Erdinc Bingol.

“Working with the Exchange has been an incredible experience,” Bingol said. “Our larger family has been collaborating with them for over 25 years, and this has been a great start to our new business venture by far.”
