• FORT KNOX, Ky.

On July 15, the Fort Knox Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (B.O.S.S.) Program hosted its inaugural Best Barracks Competition for Soldiers living in unaccompanied housing on post, and Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) gift cards were among the prizes given to the winners.

Nine Soldiers participated in the competition, as a panel of judges scored them on cleanliness, creativity, uniqueness and functionality.

One male and one female winner were chosen and awarded a B.O.S.S. swag bag, Ninja Air Fryer, competition trophy, a $100 Visa gift card, a $50 Commissary gift card and a $50 Exchange gift card to help spruce up their living space even more.

Corp. Corey Wynn was the male winner, and the female winner was PFC Nico Mottola.

B.O.S.S. PROGRAM

According to Army MWR (https://www.armymwr.com/programs-and-services/boss/about-boss), the mission of the B.O.S.S. program “is to enhance the morale and welfare of single Soldiers, increase retention and sustain combat readiness.

“B.O.S.S. is the collective voice of single Soldiers through the chain of command, which serves as a tool for commanders to gauge the morale of single Soldiers regarding quality-of-life issues.”

B.O.S.S. also sponsors a variety of activities before, during and after deployment — including the Best Barracks Competition —  “to maintain the morale of single Soldiers affected by increased operational tempo and deployment stress.”
