The Defense Commissary Agency’s (DeCA) NAS Jacksonville, Fla., Commissary is creating and building a Pet Alcove which the agency says is “designed to become a true destination for all pet owners.”
According to DeCA Director of Sales, Non-Fresh Robert Culbreth in the Notice to the Trade (NTT) “Jacksonville’s Pet Alcove Creation” (NTT#26-171, Aug. 24, 2026), to accomplish this undertaking, DeCA will utilize cluster merchandising planograms specific to Jacksonville’s 52-week performance.
“All sets will be created without replacement shelving,” he noted, and these resets will take place over two nights, beginning the evening of Wednesday Sept. 9 through the evening of Sept. 10.
The work will be conducted overnight after the store closes, “allowing customers to experience an improved shopping environment each following day,” Culbreth added.
As part of this initiative, the current Bread section will be relocated to the space currently occupied by the departing Pet sections.
Culbreth said that multiple non-food categories will be repositioned and reset “to create a preferred shopping flow throughout the affected aisles.”
RESET SCHEDULE
- Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 2000 (8 p.m.).
- Thursday, Sept. 10 at 2000 (8 p.m.).
“Industry partner support each night will be paramount to creating the Pet Alcove and resetting the affected aisles to provide a better shopping experience,” Culbreth stated.
DeCA is requesting each company participating to send a list of their team members attending no later than Sept. 1, 2026.
Any questions or concerns about this initiative should be directed to Michael Denny at michael.denny@deca.mil or (785) 571-8000.
