DeCA Fetes High School Graduate As Scholarship Winner

• USAG BAVARIA-HOHENFELS, Germany

Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) officials and community leadership gathered before the commissary here opened on June 4 to honor a Hohenfels Middle/High School student for earning a Scholarships For Military Children award from the agency and Fisher House.

Malea Jobity, a senior at the high school who is slated to attend the University of Vermont and pursue a career in teaching elementary school, wrote an essay describing the impact volunteering had on her path in life.

“In recognition of the challenges faced by military families, their contribution to the readiness of the fighting force and the role of the commissaries in the community, the Scholarships For Military Children program was created to provide needed education opportunities to the children of family members,” said Fitzgerald Hairston, Hohenfels Commissary store director.

A total of 500 scholarship grants, each for $2,000, were awarded for the 2025-2026 school year with at least one recipient selected at each military commissary store location where qualified applications are received.

Additional recipients were selected based on a prorated basis, so more grants were awarded to students at commissaries with larger numbers of applicants.

AWARDS CEREMONY

Angela Lane, the deputy garrison manager for Hohenfels, took part in the ceremony. “I love to see our young adults striving for higher education,” she said. “You guys are amazing!”

Jobity was joined by her family, including her father, Lt. Col. Brando Jobity, chief nursing officer at U.S. Army Health Clinic Hohenfels; mother Mary Jo Jobity; and twin sister Jalissa Jobity, who has accepted an appointment at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.

Both sisters graduated from Hohenfels Middle/High School during an on-post ceremony on June 6.

THE PROGRAM

The Scholarships For Military Children program was created in 2001 to recognize the contributions of military families to the readiness of the fighting force, and to celebrate the role of the commissary in the military community.

It is open to the sons and daughters of active duty, reserve/guard, or retired military commissary customers.

Now in its 25th year, the program has awarded more than $24,126,000 in scholarships over the last 24 years, selected from a pool of more than 123,270 applicants.

Fisher House Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping service members, veterans and their families, administers the program. The program is managed by Scholarship Managers, a national, nonprofit organization.

No government funds are used to support the Scholarships For Military Children program. Commissary vendors, manufacturers, brokers, suppliers and the general public donate money to fund the program.

If students have questions about the scholarship program application, they should call Scholarship Managers at (856) 616-9311 or email them at militaryscholar@scholarshipmanagers.com.
