The Defense Centers for Public Health (DCPH) conducted its annual Stored Product Pest course here in mid-April, which centered on the goal of food safety, and included participation by Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) personnel.
HEALTH GOAL
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stephanie Eubanks, DeCA’s consumer safety officer, was one of the agency’s participants. She conducted a simulated open package inspection for stored product pests.
Open package inspections are essential for determining whether food products should be condemned based on the quantity and type of insects detected, ensuring compliance with food safety standards and protecting operational readiness.
DCPH
DCPH operates under the United States Army Medical Command, providing essential support in preventive medicine, public health, and wellness initiatives for military units worldwide.
It regularly holds courses in public health, both here at its headquarters and at another site at Portsmouth, Va.
