In commemoration of National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29, Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) locations worldwide honored Vietnam War veterans for their service and sacrifice.

Each veteran was thanked for their service and presented with a commemorative lapel pin.

HISTORY

The 2026 celebration marked the 14th anniversary of the day, first proclaimed by President Barack Obama in 2012. The proclamation called upon “all Americans to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that commemorate the 50 year anniversary of the Vietnam War.”

On March 28, 2017, President Donald Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017, which officially recognizes March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

March 29 was chosen as the day for this honor because on that date in 1973, the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam.
